A 10 day tour of the best of Kenya and Tanzania

Day 1

Nairobi

Arrival into Nairobi where your Safari Spots tour manager will welcome and escort you to your hotel. A short safari briefing at your hotel, before embarking on your sightseeing tour. Your first stop will be Daphne Sheldrick’s Wildlife Trust, where you get to play with the orphaned baby elephants and rhinos. Continue to Giraffe Center, where you have the opportunity to feed the endangered Rothschild giraffe. Return to your hotel in the afternoon with the rest of the day at leisure.

Day 2

Amboseli

Breakfast and morning departure for the Amboseli Game Reserve. Your drive takes you across the Athi plains and through Namanga, before entering Amboseli. Arrive at the Amboseli Serena Lodge, located at the foot of Mount Kilimanjaro. The lodge is designed in the shape of Masai manyattas. Lunch followed by an afternoon game viewing drive in Amboseli. The melted snows of Kilimanjaro form an extensive marsh area, home to hippo and a large variety of birds.

Day 3

Amboseli

The cool morning hours make Amboseli ideal for early morning game viewing. Cheetah and lion are most active at this hour. The marsh areas are feeding grounds for the largest population of elephant in Kenya, while buffalo and hippo wallow in the swamps. The backdrop of Mount Kilimanjaro makes for spectacular photography at both sunrise and sunset. The peak of the mountain is usually visible in the early morning and late afternoon hours. Another afternoon game viewing drive in Amboseli.

Day 4

Lake Manyara

Early morning departure for Tanzania, crossing the border at Namanga, where your Tanzanian driver/guide will meet you. Continue to Arusha for lunch before proceeding to Lake Manyara National Park. Arrive at Lake Manyara Serena Lodge built on the edge of the Great Rift Valley, overlooking the park. Enjoy the infinity swimming pool and other lodge amenities.

Day 5

Ngorongoro

Depart after breakfast for the park and enjoy your game viewing drive at Lake Manyara. The dense forested areas of the park are home to the tree-climbing lions, only found at Manyara. Hippo and assorted birdlife inhabit the lake. The lake is formed by streams which flow from the Rift wall into the saucer shaped depression. Zebra, wildebeest and buffalo can be found around the lakeshore. Enjoy a picnic lunch in the park before proceeding to Ngorongoro Crater. Your drive up the slope of the volcano takes you to the Ngorongoro Serena Lodge, built on the rim of the crater. Afternoon at leisure to enjoy the incredible views of the vast crater floor from your room and verandah.

Day 6

Serengeti

Early breakfast and descend onto the Ngorongoro Crater floor. This natural phenomenon is now a dormant volcano; the floor of the crater being home to lion, cheetah, rhino, elephant and buffalo. The elusive leopard is also found here, usually in the tall acacia trees. The lake is home to flamingo, and is one of the most popular watering holes on the crater floor. Enjoy a picnic lunch before proceeding to Olduvai Gorge. Tour Olduvai Gorge the site where Louis and Mary Leakey spent many years on archeological expeditions. Visit the small museum where replica artifacts of their excavation are displayed. Continue your game viewing from the Ngorongoro Conservation area to the Serengeti National Park, arriving at the Serengeti Serena Lodge.

Day 7

Serengeti

Embark on an early morning game viewing drive in the Serengeti. The kopjes, rock outcroppings, are ideal dens for leopard. Large prides of lion can be found resting under the picturesque acacia trees; while playful lion cubs frolic, under the ever watchful eyes of their mothers. The annual migration of millions of wildebeest and zebra cross these savannah plains in search of water and greener grasslands. Return to the lodge for breakfast or take a picnic lunch and spend all day game viewing, where you might find cheetah, elephant and the graceful giraffe.

Day 8

Masai Mara

Final game viewing drive in the Serengeti before returning to your lodge for breakfast. Transfer to the border town of Isbania. Exit Tanzania and enter Kenya before boarding your flight to the Masai Mara. Your driver/guide will meet you on arrival in the Masai Mara and commence your afternoon game viewing drive. The Masai Mara is the northern extension of the Serengeti, and is Kenya’s most popular wildlife reserve. Millions of wildebeest and zebra migrate through here annually. Return to the Mara Serena Lodge, perched on the hill overlooking the savannah grasslands.

Day 9

Masai Mara

Enjoy a full day of game viewing, where you will see lots of lion. The Masai Mara has the largest population of lions in Kenya, including the majestic black mane lion. The Mara River is home to hippo and some of the world’s largest crocodile. There are large herds of elephant, buffalo, zebra, wildebeest, eland, impala and hartebeest. The cool morning hours bring out the cheetah, in search of prey. Return to the lodge for breakfast and enjoy the day by the swimming pool. Another late afternoon game viewing drive in the Masai Mara. The setting sun provides spectacular photography opportunities of the rolling savannah plains.

Day 10

Depart

Final early morning game drive, followed by a scenic hippo pools breakfast by the river. Your breakfast starts with a glass of sparkling wine, as your Masai hosts, escort you to the dining area. A full breakfast spread is laid out on the river banks, including a chef who will cook your breakfast to order. Transfer to the airstrip for your flight to Nairobi. Your Safari Spots tour manager will meet you on arrival and transfer you to your hotel where dayrooms are provided. Farewell dinner this evening at the Carnivore restaurant, where every type of meat imaginable including a selection of exotic meat is roasted over charcoal and carved at your table. Delicious side dishes and an exceptional array of sauces complement this feast that also includes soup, a selection of desserts and Kenyan coffee. Transfer to the airport for your flight home.
