Day 2

Amboseli

Breakfast and morning transfer to Wilson airport for your short flight to Amboseli Game Reserve. Amboseli is best known for its unrivalled views of Kilimanjaro and the local elephant population. There are over 1000 elephants in the parks eco-system, featuring some of the largest in Africa. Your Tortilis Camp driver will meet you at the airstrip and transfer you to camp. Tortilis Camp is named after the flat-topped, umbrella thorn tree, the Acacia Tortilis, and is situated in one of Amboseli’s areas of Acacia Tortilis woodland, with the majestic backdrop of Africa’s highest mountain, and the World’s highest free-standing mountain, snow-capped Kilimanjaro. The tents are all large and spacious, with king or twin beds and elegant en suite bathrooms. There is a main lounge, bar and dining area, all exquisitely built with natural materials and thatched roofs, with magnificent views of Kilimanjaro. Lunch followed by a late afternoon  game viewing drive.

Day 3

Amboseli

The cool morning hours make Amboseli ideal for early morning game viewing. Cheetah and lion are most active at this hour. The marsh areas are feeding grounds for the largest population of elephant in Kenya, while buffalo and hippo wallow in the swamps. The backdrop of Mount Kilimanjaro makes for spectacular photography at both sunrise and sunset. The peak of the mountain is usually visible in the early morning and late afternoon hours. Game drives, walks, sundowners and bush meals take place both inside the park, and within a private 30,000 acre game concession.

Your driver/guide will meet you on arrival in Samburu and transfer you to Larsens Tented Camp. The camp is situated on the banks of the Uaso Nyiro River, and has beautiful spacious tents which feature a private verandah facing the river. Lunch at the camp with the afternoon at leisure. Late afternoon game viewing drive. Samburu is great country to see the Samburu special five – the Reticulated giraffe, Grevy’s zebra, Somali ostrich, Beisa oryx and the long necked antelope, the Gerenuk, as well as the big cats of Africa.

Day 5

Samburu

Enjoy a full day in Samburu, with early morning and late afternoon game viewing drives. Samburu has varying vegetation. Primarily dry scrub, however the Uaso Nyiro River, which flows through the reserve, nourishes the riverine forested area along the river banks. The wild sage bushes make great hiding places for lion, while the fallen doum palm trees are ideal perches for the elusive leopard. Samburu is also home to large herds of elephant, buffalo, zebra, wildebeest, eland and impala. The doum palms and acacia trees are beautiful against the stark arid background. Return to the camp for breakfast and enjoy the day by the swimming pool. Another late afternoon game viewing drive in Samburu.

Immersed in the original bush among indigenous plantations and trees, the 20 luxury tents are directly overlooking the Mara River, which winds itself around the camp with gently flowing waters surrounded with wild life and teeming with large groups of hippo. Lunch at the camp followed by a late afternoon game viewing drive in the Masai Mara.

Masai Mara

Enjoy a full day in the Masai Mara, where your safari guide will organize your game viewing activities. Early morning and late afternoon game viewing drives are a must, although a full day game viewing during the migration is also very intriguing. The Masai Mara has the largest population of lions in Kenya, including the majestic black mane lion. The Mara River is home to hippo and some of the world’s largest crocodile. There are large herds of elephant, buffalo, zebra, wildebeest, eland, impala and hartebeest. The cool morning hours bring out the cheetah, in search of prey. The setting sun provides spectacular photography opportunities of the rolling savannah plains.
